World Cup 2022: Towards a sustainable legacy

In the December 5, 2016, the diplomatic salon hosted HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, to talk about the preparations of the State of Qatar for the organization of 2022 World Cup. At the outset of his speech, he emphasized that Qatar's organization of the 2022 World Cup means the organization of such large and important global event by all Arab states. He added that works  are going on in the stadiums as well as in the infrastructure for all the projects of the World Cup in accordance with the set plans. He stressed the need to focus on  human and social development within the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy's strategy, which goes in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 strategy. He pointed out that the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy is seeking to promote entrepreneurship among the Arab youth through a number of programs that began to be implemented years ago. At the end of his speech, HE Thawadi was quoted as saying to the audience: "You are our colleagues, ambassadors for your countries and our partners in this important event that we celebrate these days to mark six years since the State of Qatar has attained the honor of hosting this global event; and six years are also remaining to kick off the World Cup.
