Deputy Foreign Minister of Somalia: We support the Emir's call for a security agreement

Deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Ali Mohamed Ali affirmed that his country supports the call of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani to establish a security agreement in the Middle East, which intends to maintain the regional security, since the Arab security agreement has collapsed. Therefore, a new collective agreement in this regard should be concluded.

In a lecture at the Diplomatic Institute,  and attended by participants of the Founding Program, he referred that the Qatari-Somali relations is excellent and developed, and the State of Qatar contributes to the development of Somalia. An agreement has recently been signed with Qatar Development Fund (QFD), under which the Fund will carry out various development projects in Somalia, such as pavement and maintenance of major roads, the construction of government buildings and educational institutions at a cost of $ 200 million.

He noted the importance of resolving differences through dialogue, and in that sense, Somalia did not sever relations with Qatar and contributes with Kuwait in seeking ways to resolve the Gulf dispute.

He talked about the situation in Somalia since the outbreak of the crisis to this day and that his country is recovering because the Somalis believe in the importance of peace to provide decent living and start building the country destroyed by war, expressing his thanks for the role of Qatar in working to stabilize Somalia.

Pointing out that his country will bring cases before the International Court of Justice against the countries whose vessels carry its flag  as these are dredging the shores of Somalia to seize the fisheries and consequently destruct of the marine environment.

Acting Director of the Diplomatic Institute, Mrs. Nadia Al-Shaibi welcomed the Somali Deputy Foreign Minister who expressed his appreciation for the Diplomatic Institute's role in consolidating relations with brothers and friends by training diplomatic staff at the Institute. "We are pleased as we hosted a group of Somali diplomats, last year, who joined one of the programs, and the Institute's doors remain open to the Somali brothers for training in various courses available," she said.

The State of Qatar appreciates the honorable role adopted by Federal Republic of Somali towards the blockade of Qatar and rejecting pressures exerted brought to bear on it to sever relations with Doha.

She added that the position of honor eindicates  a moral vision that values fraternal relations between brotherly countries and recalls together the  milestones the relations between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Somalia witnessed. The brotherly relations between the two countries have been strengthened under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir, where the relationship is an example of the strong ties inherent in both countries' common history.
