Participants of the 31st Foundation Program visit the Shura Council.

H.E. Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, met last Monday, 20 May, the participants of the 31 Foundation Programme organized by the Diplomatic Institute for the Foreign Ministry staff as part of their visit to the Shura Council and attended its weekly session held that day.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Speaker of the Shura Council addressed the Council's history and the most significant developments.
His Excellency highlighted the role of the Shura Council in legislation and oversight, stressing the Council's concern for the supreme interest of the country and the realization of citizens' aspirations.
During the meeting, His Excellency Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, also praised the role of the Diplomatic Institute in qualifying diplomats and providing them with essential knowledge of diplomatic work, which contributes to empower them in order to achieve the interests of the state.
For their part, after attending a session of the Shura Council, participants expressed their pleasure at this experience. They commended the Council's contribution in achieving popular participation and the importance of the topics raised by the Council during its deliberations, which reflected the interest of Qatari society.
During the visit, participants attended a presentation on the establishment and development of the Shura Council, its organs and the highlights of its functions under the Constitution. The presentation also touched upon the Council's powers of legislation, oversight and approval of the general budget. The participants toured the Shura Council exhibition, which contains a series of lectures, speeches and collections showing the Shura Council's history since its establishment in 1972.
