The Diplomatic Institute, in cooperation with Georgetown University in Qatar, organized a session entitled: “U.S Grand Strategy in Grand Chaos"

At the invitation of the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a discussion session was held entitled “U.S Grand Strategy in Grand Chaos" featuring Professor Paul Musgrave, Associate Professor of International Affairs at Georgetown University in Qatar.

The session addressed the key features of U.S. grand strategy in an international environment marked by increasing turbulence, multiple conflict hotspots, and declining certainty in the structure of the global order. It also examined how Washington is reordering its priorities, alliances, and instruments of influence to respond to great power competition, regional crises, and rapid shifts in the international balance of power.

Session objectives included:

  • Understanding the main features of the transformation in U.S. grand strategy.
  •  Analyzing U.S. foreign policy priorities amid global disorder.
  •  Discussing U.S. instruments of influence in the current international environment.
  •  Reviewing how the United States engages with great power competition.
  •  Assessing the impact of regional crises on U.S. foreign policy directions.
  •  Exploring the implications of global transformations for allies and partners.
  •  Anticipating the future role of the United States in the international system.

The session was attended by a number of Qatari diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to members of the State’s diplomatic missions abroad.
